Just as a business begins with an idea, and an entrepreneur is born from an indominable passion, a blog begins with a single post. And so here I go, taking my passion for entrepreneurship and a calling to serve into this world of blogging.
But today is about much more than launching my blog. It’s about officially beginning a fresh chapter in my new life’s work as an Entrepreneurship Though Acquisition (ETA) educator, mentor, and advisor. My blog is an important part of this endeavor and will be a destination where I will share expert advice, insights, and business war stories with lessons learned from my entrepreneurial past.
Before I get ahead of myself, I should tell you a bit more about the journey that got me to where I am today, and the motivation behind my newfound purpose.
Most of my professional career was as an entrepreneur, but it didn’t begin that way. Only after receiving a degree in Industrial Engineering from Virginia Tech, serving as an officer in the U.S. Army, and earning an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, did I discovered a passion for buying, leading, and growing small to mid-sized businesses.
Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about the process of finding and acquiring great companies, working harmoniously with business owners to effectively transition leadership, and guide businesses to even greater heights. My combined book smarts and street smarts give me the aptitude to discern good opportunities from bad ones, develop winning business strategies, and discover creative ways to structure agreements that result in win-win scenarios for both buyer and seller.
It’s been an unbelievable ride. I’ve been blessed financially, and I’ll be forever grateful for the experiences. But one thing I know for sure: I would not be where I am today if it were not for a great mentor who helped me acquire my first business.
That takes me to why I am starting my ‘second act’. Quite simply, I am turning my passion into my purpose. And I am fulfilling my desire to serve by helping today’s generation of budding entrepreneurs find their success through acquisition while helping business owners pass their reins and legacy to the next generation of owner operators.
Welcome to AcquisitionMentor.com and thank you for reading my inaugural blog. Please come back often as I’ll be adding new articles and insights on a regular basis.
